Exactly what to expect on test day: how many questions, time limit, pass mark, what to bring, and what happens if you fail.

Listen to the intro

The test at a glance - 20 multiple-choice questions in English - 45 minutes maximum - Pass mark: 75% overall (15 of 20) - All five "Australian values" questions must be answered correctly

What to bring on the day Bring photo ID and the appointment confirmation from the Department of Home Affairs. Don't bring phones, notes, or smart watches into the testing room — they will be locked away.

If you don't pass You can re-sit the test. The Department will offer another appointment, usually within a few weeks. There's no limit on attempts, but repeated no-shows can delay your application.

Accessibility and special arrangements If you have a medical condition, low literacy, or are over 60, ask the Department about the citizenship interview instead of the standard test. Reasonable adjustments are available — request them in advance.
